Taking and Passing the CNA Exams

The CNA program is fast becoming one of the most sought after. This may have to do with what the job entails but all in all, before you embark on such a course it is important that you know what it is you want to get yourself into. It is important that you know what to expect in this career and what can and cannot happen.

Once you’ve found yourself a credible and affordable school to enroll in, it is important that you take all of your classes very seriously. You are also required to be above the age of 18 and before you start your degree, you will need to go through a police background check and you will have to pass a drug test as well. The course itself is short and simple and involves an exam with two parts; the first being simple general questions but the second part is much harder as the exam is based on your clinical skills. If it is your first time taking such an exam, there are a couple of tips that you could employ that can help you get rid of the nerves and pass your exam pretty well.

The first would be to follow all instructions carefully. It is possible that you will be shown four to five duties that you will be required to perform in front of your examiner who will be taking note of each and every move you make.

Before you do any demonstration, it is important that you remember to wash your hands. Most people in their nervousness forget to wash their hands which is an important part of taking and passing the CNA exams. Apply generous amounts of soap to your hands and make sure you really scrub them together. Also wash underneath your fingernails as there are a lot of germs that are harbored underneath there. Don’t let it end at your hands alone but also past your wrists. If available, use a paper towel to dry your hands. This procedure should be repeated before and after patient care.

In as much as you may be nervous about the whole examination, it is important that you remember to practice your manners even in your patient’s presence. Your examiner will be watching this intently. Always knock before you enter your patient’s room and if the need arises, use the curtains around your patient’s bed to give him/her privacy. Also introduce yourself and refer to your patient by either their first or second name. This makes them feel special and cared for.

Think ahead. This can help you tremendously especially if the exam you are taking requires you to come into contact with your patient. If so, remember to wear gloves and during the whole time also remember to explain to the patient what exactly it is you are doing to them. Once you are done, you should remember to lower the bed to its previous position or one in which the patient is comfortable.

Taking and passing the CNA exam involves a lot more than just hard studying. It will require you to be very keen.
