When it comes to being a CNA, personal appearance is something that matters a lot. However, it will not be expressed as being part of the job but if looked at logically, it is a very important part of it. This being because of the fact that you’ll be working with patients in a health facility which naturally means that looking and being clean and well kept will be a requirement. Such requirements are a natural expectation from people.
Personal hygiene and appearance for CNA’s is very important and when it comes to appearance there are some things that are vital for a CNA.
When it comes to working in a health facility, one of the factors that are maintained in such an environment are cleanliness and the same can be said for those who work there. The fact that you need to maintain high levels of cleanliness at all times doesn’t mean that your working experience will be hampered in any way. Because of the fact that you are a nursing assistant, you will be required to be in a scrub for most of the time you’ll be in the hospital. This is a uniform that most doctors, surgeons and nurses wear while on duty. It is white in color and consists of a shirt and pants made of cotton.
There are some health facilities that have a particular color of their scrubs that they want their CNA’s to wear. It is important that your scrubs are washed on a daily basis and using a strong detergent is also required. It would be to your advantage to have more than one pair of scrubs for work in case of anything.
Because of the fact that you will be either standing or walking most of the time, it is required that you be in comfortable shoes that will relieve pressure from your feet and the shoes themselves should be closed at all times.
Personal hygiene does also fall under personal hygiene and appearance for CNA’s. When it comes to this aspect, there is a lot that you already practice as it is a part of your daily routine. Aside from taking a bath and wearing clean clothes, you will also be required to keep your fingernails short because of the fact that a lot of germs can hide underneath long fingernails and you can easily pass them on to other patients. You are allowed to wear deodorant but it is advised that you do not wear one that has a strong scent because there are patients who are allergic to certain smells and it may affect them.
If you wear your hair long, it is required that you tie them away and keep washing it regularly.
