When it comes to CNA training, there has been a rise in the number of people opting to go down this path. There is a lot more involved than just wearing a nursing assistant’s uniform as you will be in charge of the health of patients. There are different ways of becoming a certified nursing assistant; however, almost all of them involve pretty much the same thing. You must go through at least six weeks of training after which you will take an exam which will determine whether or not you are qualified to become a CNA.
The test itself is available only three times in a year and consists of two parts, the first being the theory and the other, the CNA skills test. Throughout you training for CAN, you would have had enough experience even in hands-on situations. A CNA skills test can vary depending on the area in which you took your course. Some exams may ask for you to showcase three different skills while others may ask for up to six. The skills you will be asked to perform will also vary depending on the state in which you’ve learnt them. There are actually some things you may be required to do because they are considered mandatory CNA practices yet others of the same will state them as non important.
In some cases, you may also be given the choice to pick out the tasks you want to show the instructor however some of them will randomly pick a task and ask you to do it for them. Both of these will be examined during the exam.
When training for a CAN, there are a lot of things that are considered vital to do and one of them is washing your hands before and after the handling of a patient. Another tip would be to always knock on the doors of the people you are about to examine. You should also value their privacy in that if their beds have curtains; make sure you draw them first before you begin examining them. Also you should be aware of the fact that politeness, kindness and respect are all good points when it comes to the CNA test.
Before you sit for your exam, it is important that you should have studied hard and well in advance. Last minute rush doesn’t really help someone and in the end, it is better off reading consistently even though you may remember for a short time. Have all the material with you and if in the event you did not understand something, it is important for you to ask the lecturer before it’s too late. Also pay attention to what teachers like to stress upon as more often than not that is the very thing they bring in the exam. If you happen to own videos of CNA’s performing tasks then you can take to that as well. It is also important to know that just because you failed in your first exam doesn’t mean it’s the end of things. You can always learn more, study harder and re-sit the exam.
